911 / Communications
The 911 Coordinator and Jailors/Dispatchers manage emergency communications across Knox County, including the Santee Sioux Reservation.
Key responsibilities:
- Emergency Dispatch: Handling 911 calls and dispatching law enforcement, fire, and rescue services.
- Radio Operations: Operating law enforcement radios for city police, sheriff’s officers, and emergency services.
- Technology Oversight: Maintaining and upgrading 911 systems, preparing for Next Generation 911 (NG911).
- Funding: Supported by a $1.00 monthly telephone surcharge and wireless surcharge funds.
The 911 Coordinator works day shifts and assists with vehicle inspections and clerical duties. All dispatchers are certified by the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and complete at least 20 hours of annual continuing education.
